Weekly Updates

Sept. 6-10:
  • WEEK 3!!!  This week will be busy, Busy, BUSY!  First, we hope you thoroughly enjoyed the Labor Day holiday!
  • This week we will finish up our Nursery Rhymes and begin reviewing shapes.  We'll be eating round, square, oval, rectangular, triangular and diamond shaped snacks all week.  Ask your child what shape they ate each day!
  • On Wednesday, 9/8, we take school pictures.  Please make sure faces are washed, hair is combed and they're wearing something bright or complimentary.  Pictures will be taken first thing in the morning @ 8:50.
  • Thursday is our field trip to the L.A. County Fair.  It will be an all-day excursion.  We leave at 8:15am and return at 1:30pm.  Dress your child in something cool, tennis shoes and a hat.  Don't forget to apply some sunscreen and please make sure that your child brings a sack lunch w/ a bottle of water to hydrate while walking.  At the fair they will also receive free milk for their lunch.  On Wednesday, there will be a brief meeting for all the field trip volunteers to cover pertinent information.
  • Friday is our Kindergarten Family Picnic.  Please plan to come @ 12:00 noon with a picnic lunch and blanket.  We'll sit in the cool shade under the trees in our kindergarten playground and enjoy a time of food and fellowship.  Dessert will be provided!
  • Book Orders for September are due on Friday (9/10).  Please have your child return their book orders and a check (made out to Scholastic Books) in an envelope marked with their name.  Books arrive within 8-10 days.  We will try to have online ordering available for the October book orders.
  • Please check your child's VIP (Very Important Papers) folder each day.  Important notices are sent home throughout the week.
  • Lastly, this is our final week of early dismissal.  Next week we begin our Extended Day schedule.  Notices will go home this week reminding you to send a lunch with your child on Monday-Thursday.  Dismissal on those days will be at 1:30pm.  Thanks!

August 30-Sept. 3:
  • Congratulations!  We made it through the first week of school and we're still in one piece!!!  (Maybe a few more gray hairs, but who's counting!)  Actually, your children did quite well and are  transitioning smoothly into the activities, structure and rigors of kindergarten!
  • Thank you to all who were able to attend Back to School Night last Thursday.  We covered a lot of important information, as well as handing out forms that need to be returned.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.  We're happy and available to help.
  • Thank you, also, for being so prompt in returning the Office forms, supplies, snack & scrapbook fees.  As we complete these tasks and check them off our To-Do list, it frees us up to just concentrate on our teaching duties.
  • This week we begin reviewing colors and nursery rhymes.  We'll be having snacks that correspond to the Color song they'll be learning.  Orange carrots, yellow pears, brown (cinnamon toast) bears and red cherry pie are just samples of what they'll be eating ~ yum!
  • Parent Volunteer Orientation is this Wednesday, Sept. 1.  Please return the pink form that indicates whether or not you can attend.  We'll meet in Room K-2 @ 11:45.
  • September calendars are in your child's VIP folder.  Please have your child tell you the important dates in September.  Then find a great spot to keep the calendar in your home.
  • Permission slips for our Field Trip to the L.A. County Fair have been sent home.  Please return them by Friday!
  • This week we celebrate two birthdays:  Sunny turns 5 on August 31 and Simon turns 5 on September 3!  If you'd like to celebrate when it's your child's birthday with a special snack, please let us know!
