School Profile

Evergreen Elementary School is one of nine elementary schools in the Walnut Valley Unified School District.  Located in Diamond Bar, the school enjoys a well deserved reputation for having high academic achievement and  a caring professional faculty and staff.Evergreen’s enrollment is approximately 670 K - 5 students.  Our students come from predominately middle class homes with two working parents.  The student population is approximately 72% Asian, 14% Anglo and 10% Hispanic.

Student achievement is high, with 80% of students meting state standards in reading and 90% meeting standards in math according to the 2007 California Standards Test.  The school’s Academic Performance Index (API) for 2007 is 929 (state target is 800 and scores range from 200 to 1000).  Evergreen students have shown consistent improvement in achievement with a total gain of 127 API points since 2000. The school has exceeded its state API and AYP goals every year, and has consistently placed in the top ten percent of California schools.

Parent support is very strong at Evergreen.  Parents contributed countless volunteer hours each year helping in classrooms, school library, computer lab, at home and with school events.  The Evergreen Community Club, our parent group, provides over $35,000 each year to supplement the school’s instructional program by providing field trips, assemblies, materials, equipment and support for staff development activities.

The school staff demonstrates its strong commitment to the success of each student by providing a differentiated instructional program for all students.  This is accomplished through ongoing assessment, individual and small group instructional settings, and through the use of research based materials, technology, leveled readers and other programs.  Students having difficulty in academics, behavior, or social interactions receive assistance through our Student Success Team, our Elementary Learning Specialist, student guidance program, special education team or intervention programs.

The entire Evergreen Elementary School community is proud to provide a caring environment supporting the district Blueprint for Excellence and District Vision:

Kids First: every student, every day

Student Fees: The California Constitution mandates that public education be provided to students free of charge, unless a charge is specifically authorized by law for a particular program or activity. This constitutional right of free access encompasses all educational activities, whether curricular or extracurricular, and regardless of whether credit is awarded for the educational activity. The right of free access also prohibits mandated purchases of materials, supplies, equipment or uniforms associated with the activity, as well as the payment of security deposits for access, participation, materials or equipment. A process that allows for a waiver process for an otherwise mandatory fee, charge or deposit does not render it constitutionally permissible.
