Welcome to Room 31's Web Page!

I am so happy to have your child in my class. I know that this is going to be a great year. This will also be a very challenging year for your child. Fourth grade is a hard transitional grade.  It is important that you understand this transition so you can help your child have a successful year.
This year we will be covering a wide variety of curriculum. In math we will learn to divide into larger numbers and multiply by larger numbers. It is imperative that your child has already mastered his or her basic facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. If he or she has not, it is important that you work on flash cards nightly. We will also be covering graphing of a line, algebra topics, geometry, probability, and fractions. In Language Arts we will focus on reading skills, vocabulary skills, grammar basics and preparing for the California State Writing Test in March. In Social Studies, we will cover California’s history including the Native Americans, Missions, and the Gold Rush. Finally, in Science students will experience activities about How the Earth Changes, Ecosystems, Electricity, and Magnetism. Additionally, the students in this class will join with all other fourth graders at Evergreen School as they participate in PE instruction and learn to play the Recorder and read music. As you can see, this is going to be a very busy year.
Homework assignments will be listed daily on your child’s Homework Tracker. This is to be signed nightly by you. It is important that you check the Homework Tracker every night and make sure that your child has completed all of his or her assignments.
